Hello, my name is Sam (Samantha when I'm in trouble). As a child I discovered that practicing the piano was a great way to get out of doing the washing up...and also...I loved it.
I studied piano and harpsichord with Rosemary Braga, becoming a church organist at 12 years old and a choral director at 18.
At university, my first degree enabled me to develop performance, composition, and conducting skills. I then qualified as a teacher and continued my professional development with post-graduate courses: for teaching students with autism, ABRSM teaching, and I am currently working on my performance diploma. I have been assessed as outstanding by OFSTED.
With focus on piano, spinet, and organ, I think that compositions come alive when played on the instrument for which they were written.
Raised in Liverpool, I saw that music was a unifying language that crossed divides of status, class and geography.
I believe in music for all:
I offer a scholarship programme for students and families. Music must not be for the elite few; it is in every heartbeat, in every footstep, for all humankind.
For the past twenty years I have directed choirs for pleasure and competitive purposes. We have been able able to enjoy the camaraderie (and awards!) that this has brought. These successes include:
Leamington Music Festival 2007-2012
Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year
Coventry Combined Choirs Festival
Available lessons based in Phocle Green include:
In-person safe lessons and/or lessons via zoom.
For beginner to Grade 8.
Grade 5 theory.
GCSE music.
